David Roberts, Chairman
Mr. Roberts, chairman of the company since 1999, has vast
and varied experience as a creative real estate entrepreneur, including the
ownership, management and development of residential, hospitality and
commercial properties.
As one example of Mr. Roberts creativity and success, Mr.
Roberts recognized a need for senior housing catering to ambulatory
individuals and couples who required assistance in cooking, transportation
and general care but who were otherwise fit and capable of taking care of
themselves. To accomplish that goal, Mr. Roberts converted an abandoned 14
story student dorm into a 264 room luxury retirement facility. With nursing
facilities offering a higher level of care than needed and at a cost few
could afford, Westwood Horizons was opened in May, 1973, and continues to be
owned and operated by Mr. Roberts. Westwood Horizons was an immediate
success because it offered a desperately needed service in the heart of
Westwood Village, one block from UCLA Medical Center and only minutes from
Beverly Hills and other affluent areas of Los Angeles.
In addition to Westwood Horizons, Mr. Roberts developed
several health related centers such as The Pritikin Longevity Center in
Santa Monica, California, The Oaks at Ojai and The Palms in Palm Springs.
Mr. Roberts was born in New York, New York. He attended
Los Angeles City College from 1948 to 1950 and Southwestern University
School of Law from 1950 to 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to
1953.
